Launch Checklist - 6 min read - Updated 2026-07-10
First 15 minutes after deployment
A launch checklist for access, backups, game settings, and baseline tests immediately after a new server is created.
Confirm access before changing settings
Start by confirming that the panel, server console, and file access all work for the people who will operate the server. Fix access issues before installing plugins or editing configuration, because you need a clean way to recover if a setting breaks startup.
- Open the server console and confirm that the process is running.
- Join the server from the public address that players will use.
- Confirm the owner or senior admin can restart the server.
- Confirm file access before uploading plugins, worlds, maps, or gamemodes.
Set admin and moderation controls
Add only the initial operators you need for launch. Use individual admin identities where the game supports them, and avoid sharing one owner password across a staff team.
For community servers, record who can restart the server, change maps, update plugins, or access files. This prevents accidental changes during the first busy session.
Create a baseline before heavy customization
Before adding large plugin packs, custom maps, or modpacks, capture the default working state. A baseline gives you something to compare against if startup time, memory use, or crashes appear after customization.
- Save the default configuration files somewhere outside the live edit path.
- Write down the first successful startup time and memory usage.
- Take or schedule the first backup before uploading major custom content.
- Change one major system at a time so the cause of a failure is visible.
Run a player-path test
A server is not ready just because the process is online. Test the path a real player will follow: find the address, join, download required assets, play through a map or world change, and reconnect after a restart.
If the server depends on a Discord announcement, website embed, server list, or voting site, verify those links point to the final address before launch.
